NOW MOONG CULTIVATION WILL MAKE THE FARMERS OF MOGA DISTRICT ENTREPRENEURS

Moga: Under the ‘One District One Product’ scheme launched by the Government of India in collaboration with the state governments, it has been decided to promote the cultivation and trade of Moong in District Moga.  Farmers who cultivate this crop will now be able to establish themselves as successful entrepreneur. A meeting of the district-level committee was held in the meeting hall of the local district administrative complex to formulate a strategy to provide maximum benefits to the farmers under the scheme which was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner Mr Sandeep Hans today.  Mr Rajneesh Tuli, General Manager, Food Processing Department specially attended the meeting and briefed about the scheme.  The meeting was also attended by officials of various departments, farmers, representatives of small units and self-help groups in the food processing sector and others. Disclosing this, Deputy Commissioner said that earlier in district Moga the potato was selected under the category of ‘One District One Product’ but later the Moong crop was selected today agreeing to the new proposal brought by the farmers of the district.  He further said that it has come to the notice that although the production of potato in the Moga district was substantial, it was used only as seed whereas further processing was not yet possible.  That is why instead of potato in district Moga, it has been decided to promote Moong crop for cultivation and trade under ‘One District One Product’ scheme. He said that this product has been selected by the executive agency after a thorough consideration of its unique market potential.  Most food processing units are struggling with either informal or unorganized marketing.  He said that by availing the benefits of this scheme these units would not only be able to manufacture high quality and safe products but would also become self-reliant with the help of lending, branding, skilling, strengthening etc. The Deputy Commissioner said that Punjab Agro Industries Corporation is the executive agency of this scheme and anyone can contact the concerned agency to apply under this scheme.  He said that the existing person of Micro Food Processing Unit can get 35% subsidy of credit-linked capital at a maximum project cost of Rs.10 lakh per unit, with seed capital and credit-linked grant for capital investment. Mr Hans appealed to the food processing entrepreneurs to further expand their business by availing the financial, technical and commercial support of the Prime Minister’s Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme (PM-FME Scheme).  The scheme would provide security, Hygiene, skill technology, marketing and other facilities to the farmers and their crops.
