Trend Of People Towards Government Schools Increases In District Moga

Moga, May 21: Despite the closure of educational institutions in Punjab due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the work of educating the students of government schools through various social media apps is continuing.  Under which Moga district is one of the districts in Punjab where teachers of all government schools are imparting online education to their students and during this new academic session the trend of people towards government schools has increased tremendously.

Disclosing this here today, Deputy District Education Officer (SE) Mr Rakesh Makkar said that due to the unique efforts of the department the enrollment in the government schools of district Moga has increased by 9.02% so far during the new session under which 9542 new students have been enrolled.  As many as 1,15,316 students were enrolled in government schools in the district this time as compared to 1,05,774 students enrolled in the previous session.  This enrollment is expected to grow further.

 He said that the enrollment in the senior secondary wing has increased by 10.41 per cent this time as compared to the previous session.  In the last session, there were 36,027 students in the second wing of government schools and this time the number has risen to 39,778.  Similarly, the enrollment in government primary schools of district Moga has increased by 9.04 per cent (4629 students).  The number of students in the primary wing was 51,199 last session and this time the number has risen to 55,828.

Harpreet Singh Dholan, Nodal Officer, District Moga said, “The ongoing work of Civil Works in the district is satisfactory, which is motivating more students to enrol in schools. Books have been distributed to the children.

Dr Davinder Singh Chhina Principal of Kishanpura Kalan said that for the last three consecutive sessions the interest of the students in the 11th and 12th Science classes in the school has been increasing which is evident from the number of students studying Science subject in the school.  The number of science students is over 60 this year as against 42 last year.  He said that his school has become a popular school in the area.  The school is providing excellent education to the students even during the critical times of covid.

He said that at present all the teachers and lecturers of the school were conducting online classes through Zoom / Google Meet.  He said that at present 626 students were enrolled in the school which was an increase of 14% over the previous year.  He further said that at present the school has 9 smart classrooms which is a record in the district.

Rakesh Makkar said that the teachers are teaching the students every day through Zoom / Google Meet and WhatsApp. Apart from this, the students are also doing specialized studies through the Educare app developed by the school education department.

He said that the teachers regularly discuss the issue of education with the children and parents over the phone. Children’s buddy groups have also been formed.  Many expert teachers have also set up personal YouTube channels to teach students.

Mr Sandeep Hans, Deputy Commissioner, District Moga lauded the efforts of the Education Department to keep the children connected with education through online medium even in these difficult times and encouraged all the officers, school principals, teachers, non-teaching staff and students.
