Bathinda, June 5:
Punjab Finance Minister Mr. Manpreet Singh Badal on Saturday laid foundation stones for the upgradation of Shaheed Major Ravi Inder Singh Sandhu Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Mall road and construction of state-of-the-art digital public library here.
The Finance Minister said that the school will be converted into 4-storey modern building, which will have 65 smart classrooms, 39 labs, an examination hall, playground and all other facilities at a cost of Rs.10.50 crore. Similarly, the state of the art public library will be setup on 1.26 acre of land in the heart of Bathinda City at Civil Station near City center mall at a cost of around Rs 7 crore to provide necessary impetus for channelising the energy and talent of youth in right direction.
The library will be equipped with various facilities like Conference Hall, e-book section, Amphitheatre, Refreshment Corner etc., said the Minister, while adding that this effort would go a long way in making an equitable society where all youngsters to get equal opportunity for growth and development.
After laying the foundation stone of the library, Mr. Badal said the library is to be setup with a vision to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure for researchers as well as students looking for access to academic resources like online journals,e-databases etc which have become hallmarks for modern libraries. The digital library would open several growth opportunities for youngsters. It will help to further mitigate the digital divide that the world has witnessed during Covid times.
Mr. Manpreet Singh Badal said the Bathinda City has emerged as a regional hub of education and research, especially with the setting up of various academic institutions.
Considering the high demand among the youth for new avenues and opportunities of learning and acquiring skills, today laid the foundation stone of the library of high standards, he added.

Digital libraries are the future and these will be beneficial to students who aspire to pursue higher studies and prepare for competitions, but lack the digital platforms and resources to compete, Manpreet Singh Badal said. He added that he hopes that such digital libraries and knowledge hubs would be created in all districts of Punjab .
